José was born and raised in Santiago, Chile. José has deeply rooted interests in the modelling and application of novel optimisation methods to mining problems with particular focus on geological uncertainty and solution robustness. Having joined the Risk and Value group of CET in December last year, he expects to work on stochastic optimisation of exploration drillhole’s location with particular emphasis on resource uncertainty.
After high school José entered The University of Chile’s Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, where he first became a Mathematical Engineer to later obtain a M.Sc. in Operations Management. After completion of his M.Sc. degree he to Canada where he started living in Montréal, Québec to end up in Sudbury, Ontario where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Natural Resources Engineering at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. After finishing the Ph.D. degree and before joining the Department of Mineral and Energy Economics of Curtin University, José was a lecturer at the Mining Department of the Western Australian School of Mines in Kalgoorlie where he lived during the last three years.
José is looking forward to establish research collaborations and is quite happy to discuss about ideas where his skills could contribute. He spends part of his time at Curtin Graduate School of Business in Murray Street in Perth but has no problems to hop into his scooter and get to where most of CET staff is currently located if called on.
